Gameboy is a handheld video game console
created by Nintendo, it was first released in 1989. It’s really popular among
the kids back then, because of fun & addictive games. We can play this
handheld console anywhere and anytime. Gameboy was giving a colour to the
childhood of many people, it really sold well around the world. Lifetime of
Gameboy family is really long, it live about 17 years before discontinued in
2006. During its lifetime, Nintendo has released three types of Gameboy :
Gameboy, Gameboy colour, and Gameboy advance.
Gameboy or Gameboy Classic is the
first Gameboy that released by Nintendo in 1989. It has a black and green
reflective LCD screen with a directional pad, two action buttons, and start and
select button. Cartridges are needed to play games on this console. We need
four AA batteries to operate this system, the power lasts for 35 hours. Gameboy
Classic came with only white colour in 1989, and some variants like red, green,
blue, yellow, black, transparent released later in 1995. Even though Gameboy
Classic doesn’t have a coloured screen, it sold really well worldwide and beat
their competitor at the time like Sega Game Gear or Atari Lynx. Everyone loves
the power life of this system that lasted really long.
Gameboy Color is an upgraded version of the Gameboy
Classic, released in 1998. Actually, it’s just a slight upgrade version of the
Gameboy Classic. While Gameboy Classic has a colourless screen, Gameboy Color came with colourful screen. Nintendo added a coloured screen to this system and upgrade its
processor speed. This system will last for about 30 hours with two AA batteries.
It less longer than the Gameboy Classic, but with the coloured screen we can
play a better display game. Gameboy Color has a backward compatibility, so we
can play Gameboy Classic games on our Gameboy Color as well. We can even play
some Gameboy Color games on Gameboy Classic too. There are seven colour variants
of Gameboy colour, clear purple, purple, red, blue, green, yellow and silver.
Gameboy Advance is a significant
upgrade version of the Gameboy, released in 2001. There are some major change
added to the system. Gameboy advance has a bigger screen and higher resolution,
better processor, and like the Gameboy Color, it has a backward compatibility.
It also has an addition buttons called shoulder buttons. In exchange for this
upgrade, this system will only last for about 15 hours with two AA batteries.
Gameboy Advance has six variants of colour, purple, white, clear blue, orange,
black and fuchsia. Gameboy Advance has upgraded version called Gameboy Advance
SP and Gameboy Advance Micro. They came with rechargeable batteries and better
screen resolution with different design.
These types of Gameboy made the
Gameboy family as an amazing and one of the most popular gaming system that
ever existed. Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance is a great successor of the
classic Gameboy. Nintendo made a great decision to the Gameboy, they always
tried their best to make the system keep alive by giving it the upgraded
version. Gameboy evolution is really interesting because it has a long lifetime
and an interesting upgrade.
