Serabi Bandung & Serabi Sukabumi

            Serabi is a cake that come from Indonesia and become popular. invented in 1923, Serabi is a traditional Javanese food because it is more popular on this province. Serabi has a shape similar to a pancake but smaller and thicker. Surabi is generally made from rice flour or flour which is burned using traditional tools, furnaces and clay molds. If the pancake has a sauce on it, Serabi also has a sauce made from palm sugar. even now Serabi are served with mayonnaise, dark chocolate or with chicken topping, sausages etc. The sauce is made from a mixture of palm sugar and coconut milk, called kinca.

            Serabi Bandung and Sukabumi has a similar ingredients and flavors. Serabi has a varieties in flavors, there are kinca, colenak, oncom, durian, chocolate, cheese, fried egg, and even ice cream. The original flavors from Serabi are Kinca and Oncom, it’s the most favorite flavors among parents. As for now, the young generation’s prefer cheese, choclate, and fried egg flavors. Serabi Bandung famous with it’s oncom flavor while Sukabumi is durian flavor.

            The process of making Serabi Bandung and Sukabumi arer similar too, they use furnaces and clay molds and cook it with firewood. This traditional process is what make the Serabi tastes different than using a stove. There is a little difference texture from Serabi Bandung and Sukabumi.

            Serabi Imut Bandung is very famous in Bandung even West Java and well-known as a pioneer in developing Serabi, making this traditional food have a more modern taste. In Sukabumi, Serabi Tasik is one of the recommended places that should be visited. Starting from the traditional concept of Sundanese culture and how to cook it with firewood.

            Serabi Bandung and Sukabumi has its own advantages and good on it’s own tastes. Some people will prefer Serabi bandung, and some will prefer Serabi Sukabumi, it depends on the people itself. There are plenty of Serabi out there and might be the other Serabi would tastes better than Bandung and Sukabumi.
